Live with Steven's iPod

For those who don't know, I bought [info]invadersteven's black 60 GB iPod. And though it was not one of our agreed upon conditions, he did leave the music on it.

I'm weeding through things that I wouldn't want since it's now mine, but I have a few things to say thus far:

He has WAY WAY WAY TOO MANY "Score of X movie." He's got a few favorite composers, none that I could name now, far too sleepy... But that's quite the obsession.

Shuffle Play really is all it's cracked up to be... On my iPod with my music you either get Metal, Alternative Rock, or Electronica of some nature. On his, you happen to jump from say a Disney song from a movie to say... The Humpty Dance... to Peter Gabriel.

Purchased content is reeeediculous! I'm going to have to re-hash a way around Apple's Fairplay DRM so I can keep some good Eddie Izzard comedy.

Needless to say this is going to take me a very long time.

*BALEETED!*

UPDATE (ten minutes later): down to 12325 songs...

I've devised a plan. Using a Smart Playlist, I will go through Artists alphabetically, rate songs up I plan on keeping, and rate songs down that are questionable or even unacceptable. Then delete them en-masse when I get the chance to plug back in. Starting at good ol' A.

So right now, the conditions are Artist must start with "A" and My Rating must be in the range of 2 to 3 stars, this way ones I rate up to 5 won't appear and the ones I rate 1 won't appear.

Playlist contains 616 songs... gute nacht

Lyrics to "I Need a Jew" from Family Guy
Volkswagen
[info]jozzfest
Peter:
Nothing else has worked so far,
So I’ll wish upon a star,
Wondrous sparkling speck of light,
I need a Jew...

Lois makes me take the rap,
Because our checkbook looks like crap,
Since I can't give her a slap,
I need a Jew...

Where to find
A bum or stien or stein
To teach me how to whine
And do my taxes...

Though by many they're abhorred,
Hebrew people I’ve adored,
Even though they killed my lord,
I need a Jew!

Max:
Hi, my name's Max Weinstein,
my car just broke down,
can I use you phone?

Peter:
Now my troubles are all through
I have a Jew!

Max:
Hey!

The Working Class Unix Geek
PBJ Time
[info]jozzfest
So they pushed back the right people, and changed IT/IS Mgmt at Mr. Company and gave me back my fucking Unix box, or at least, the right to have one.

Got er' nice and setup. It's a crummy gateway P3 somewhere around 750mhz w/ 256 MB of RAM. Very crummy for Windows, but still very Unix friendly.

FreeBSD 5.x, still not brave enough for 6 - or I could say that I just haven't had the time... But would ya really believe my slack ass?

My biggest accomplishment thus far was setting up synergy2 successfully. Initially I had hoped to make my powerhouse Dell P4 be the meat and potatos, the sharer of the keyboard and mouse, but I still don't have bloody Administrator access to it, and Windows firewall wanted to block incoming connections on random ass TCP ports. I wish I could blame it. So the serving was on the other foot, and it worked beautifully with Windows as the client.

I have two systems, two monitors, one keyboard and mouse :) (I kept a set as backup obviously for failures, due to ghetto fabulousness)

I went with XFCE to manage my X environment, simply because it's easy to manage and does not (as far as I know) leak memory like a sieve like Enlightenment, and isn't total bloatware like KDE or Gnome.

I fucking love open source...

*EDIT* I also forgot to mention that I performed some last minute feng shui on my desk and items thereon to make it all look visually stunning too. The Gateway, due to loudness, is under my desk, and I put the two monitors side-by-side... Good monitors, the Gateway VX720. 17", aperture grille, 1280x1024x85hz - I spent a little time trying to find one that wasn't burnt-in, didn't have the anti-glare coating scratched off in places, and still retained brilliance. That was way harder than it should've fucking been. People seem to have no respect for the hardware they use these days.

I'll snap a picture when I remember.

Goodbye jozzfest the Wizard...

You died in The Dungeons of Doom on dungeon level 2 with 427 points,
and 123 pieces of gold, after 1230 moves.
You were level 3 with a maximum of 25 hit points when you died.

In my defense, I was trying to burn text in the floor, I was paniced due to a water demon spawn.
That's *supposed* to be an ASCII grave at the top... I'm just too tired and lazy to fix it.

Hello jozzfest, welcome to NetHack! You are a chaotic male human Wizard.
You see here a chest.
# loot
There is a chest here, loot it? [ynq] (q)
Hmmm, it seems to be locked.
# force
There is a chest here, force its lock? [ynq] (q)
You start bashing it with your quarterstaff.
You succeed in forcing the lock.
In fact, you've totally destroyed the chest. You see a flask shatter!
It suddenly gets dark.
